SUPPORTING ACADEMIC
INNOVATION: $1 MIllION
Support of Centers and
Curricular Programs:
$1 million
The Cummings School has been a
pioneer in expanding the contributions
of veterinary medicine to society.
Innovative and interdisciplinary
programs such as our Center for
Animals and Public Policy and Tufts
Center for Conservation Medicine
require consistent funding to
continue addressing contemporary
animal welfare, conservation, and
environmental concerns.
Other distinctive curricular programs
also attract students and faculty
eager to make a difference. Our
signature programs in Wildlife
Medicine, International Veterinary
Medicine, and Ethics and Values have
defined new career opportunities and
elevated veterinary education and
practice. The school is now developing
three additional curricular programs
to address emerging needs: the ACE
(Accelerated Clinical Excellence)
Program, reflecting the growing role
of specialty practice in veterinary
medicine; a shelter medicine program
that will partner the school with
some of the most established animal
welfare organizations in the country;
and a growing program in public
health that recognizes and promotes
“one health” as a core value in both
human and veterinary medicine.
We are seeking additional funding for
grief counseling training, combined
degree programs, management
and leadership curricula, and other
educational enhancements that will
enrich campus and student life.
Venture Fund for New
Initiatives: $ million
Today we recognize the many
opportunities at the edge of
disciplines or the points where
academic fields overlap. Strategic
investment in a venture fund will
fuel initiatives that promote the
school’s reputation for innovation and
progressive thinking. These funds
will also provide critical leverage for
expanding our interactions within the
university and with other institutions.
Working with the SVF Foundation
of Newport, Rhode Island, Cummings
is cryobanking the genetic diversity
of North America’s endangered
breeds of livestock.
THE ANNUAl FUND:
$1 MIllION
In contrast to the more visible, “big-
ticket items,” the Cummings Veterinary
Fund strengthens the veterinary school’s
good work in countless crucial ways
every day. Annual unrestricted gifts from
alumni, parents, and friends go directly
into the operating budget and enable
us to provide financial aid for worthy
students, purchase new equipment for
the veterinary hospitals and teaching
laboratories, develop new clinical and
community services, and expand library
and computer resources. Unrestricted
gifts to the Cummings Veterinary
Fund help keep the school flexible in
responding quickly to unforeseen needs
and opportunities. As the school builds
campus facilities, adds faculty, and
expands services, the annual operating
budget will also increase—and so, too,
must the Cummings Veterinary Fund.
