Tufts attracts incredibly talented students, and we have the privilege of empowering them to follow their
passions. Some will make their mark in clinical medicine, others in public health or research. All will use
their compassion and skills to advance animal and human health.
While Tufts is well known as a center of excellence in clinical medicine, we don’t just treat immediate health
issues. We also work to improve the long-term well-being of humans, animals, and the environment.
Cummings School veterinarians and biomedical scientists constantly strive
to turn laboratory research into life-saving treatments in areas as diverse as
infectious diseases, oncology, and pulmonary disease.
As our faculty and students actively expand the role of veterinarians in
ecosystem health and through leadership of integrated medical teams, we are
truly pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a veterinarian today.

Founded in 1978, the
Cummings School of
Veterinary Medicine
at Tufts University is
one of the nation’s
most distinguished
institutions for
veterinary education,
patient care, and
laboratory research.
We provide outstanding teaching to prepare the next generation of
veterinarians. We dedicate ourselves to providing compassionate
and sensitive care for companion animals, livestock, and wildlife.
And, we draw on clinical work, field studies, laboratory science, and
interdisciplinary perspectives to stay on the cutting edge of research
benefiting animal and human public health.
Our students, faculty, and graduates share a mission of practical
optimism: From the earliest days, they have believed in their ability to
achieve at the highest levels and to accomplish whatever they envision.
Through that shared conviction, the Cummings School community has
built a reputation for being bold, innovative, and progressive in clinical,
conservation, and international medicine. For new paths in veterinary
education, look to Tufts.
This is the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine today: a school
that has emerged as a powerful influence on the future of veterinary
medicine—locally, across the nation, and around the world.
We now stand at a crossroads. To achieve greater success, we must
significantly deepen and broaden our financial foundation. Toward that
end, we have recently launched a comprehensive campaign to raise
$100 million, an investment that will ensure Tufts’ position at
the forefront of veterinary medicine for generations to come.
