erinary medicine
has become a global leader in developing communitybased
initiatives in sustainable livelihoods. We also
implemented a signature program in ethics and
values that has anticipated complex debates on the
changing status of animals in society. And today we are
spearheading online teaching tools that provide courses in
veterinary medicine in needed places around the world.
OUR TEACHING HOSPITAlS AND ClINICS
RESPOND WITH THE HIGHEST-QUAlITy CARE.
Twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, Tufts clinics
and hospitals administer sophisticated medical and
surgical care using a host of diagnostic tools and
progressive therapies: ultrasound, CT and MRI imaging,
chemotherapy and radiation therapy for tumors, kidney
dialysis, arthroscopic surgery, and brain surgery.
At our Hospital for Large Animals, we provide care to
1,750 horses, goats, llamas, and other large animals each
year. Through clinical studies in neonatal intensive care
and equine sports medicine, we develop new knowledge
to help animals just beginning their lives, and prevent
and treat serious injuries to horses in their prime.
Our Wildlife Clinic is designated by the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service as the official treatment center for
endangered and threatened species in New England.
Tufts faculty and students have played a critical role
in wildlife conservation by partnering in successful
efforts to reestablish bald eagles, peregrine falcons,
Plymouth red-bellied turtles, and other species in
the Northeast.
