Tufts researchers helped produce a heat-stable vaccine and
delivery protocol that may eradicate rinderpest, a devastating
viral cattle disease in southern Africa, by 2010. Cummings
School and Tufts Medical School researchers are working to
develop more heat-stable vaccines to combat human diseases
in regions where refrigeration is not reliably available.
Our citizen-scientist initiative SEANET (Seabird Ecological
Assessment Network) brings together interdisciplinary
researchers and volunteers to track changing disease
patterns in Atlantic Coast birds. It coordinates more than
60 seabird and ecological health organizations from Canada
to New Jersey, which together employ more than 300
volunteers to collect mortality data on birds found during
beach walks.
