Our reputation for innovative education is well grounded. The Tufts University
School of Engineering has been a pillar of Tufts’ educational mission since the
1880s. Today, we hold a unique position among our peers, offering a first-rate
engineering education embedded in both an excellent liberal arts college and a
major research university. The school is particularly regarded as a pioneer in K-12
outreach; its Center for Engineering Educational Outreach (CEEO) is a leader in
developing classroom technology for teaching engineering and science. We are also
well known for our high percentage of women studying and teaching engineering
at Tufts: we are fifth among the nation’s engineering schools in female faculty.
Our commitment to innovative education is affirmed at the graduate level
in The Gordon Institute (TGI) master’s degree program, which transforms
technical professionals into technical leaders. And TGI is creating synergy with
our undergraduate programs through the Entrepreneurial Leadership Program,
which provides hands-on educational opportunities for students interested in
founding their own companies or working in entrepreneurial environments.

Pride in the Tufts School of Engineering is perhaps best reinforced by the students
themselves. Undergraduates who enter the program as freshmen or sophomores
overwhelmingly choose to stay. While the average American engineering school loses
about a third of its first- or second- year class, the Tufts School of Engineering enjoys a
near zero net attrition rate, with as many students transferring in from Arts and
Sciences as transfer out. Equally important is that 99 percent of our enrolled students
graduate in four years. In part, this success reflects a strong undergraduate advising
system and the close integration of engineering students with those in
Arts and Sciences.
