Michael helped research passenger
train crashworthiness as an intern
at the Volpe National Transportation
Systems Center in Cambridge. Train
safety was the focus of Michael’s
Tufts senior honors thesis, and he
plans on a career in aviation design.
“We fielded a team in a robotics
competition, in which the challenge
was to build a robot that could get
a 50-pound bag of rice to the top of
a flight of stairs. Our team of four
spent an entire semester working on
the solution. We showed up with a
very simple model made from
Legos that cost us maybe $50.
It actually managed to climb the
stairs!
