Environmental Policy
“ Students at Fletcher are interested in
finding sustainable solutions to the chal-
lenges posed by the critical environment
and resource problems of our time.
A Fletcher education demonstrates the
multiple dimensions of complex issues
such as energy, climate change, and
economic security as facets of a single
issue. Students learn how people can
improve their well being by simulta-
neously addressing environmental,
social, and economic needs through
international cooperation.”

We seek to expand and strengthen
three signature academic programs
in international environmental and
resource policy studies, international
human security, and international
business, while advancing the
Edward R. Murrow Center.
• The Center for International Environmental and
Resource Policy integrates emerging science,
engineering, and business concepts with a more
traditional curriculum in law and diplomacy, and
aims to become a major international research
and advocacy center that will educate the
world’s emerging environmental leaders.
• The Institute for Human Security, established
in 2000, promotes cutting-edge research and
education at the intersection of humanitarianism,
development, human rights, and conflict resolution.
The Institute is resolutely interdisciplinary;
it collaborates closely with the Alan Shawn
Feinstein International Center at Tufts’ Friedman
School of Nutrition Science and Policy.
• The new master’s program in International Business
(and complementary Center for Emerging
Markets Enterprises) will give Fletcher graduates
a singular competitive advantage by fostering a
unique synergy between innovative training in
international business and a renaissance education in
international history, law, economics, and politics.
• The Edward R. Murrow Center for the Study and
Advancement of Public Diplomacy was established
in 1965 in memory of the man whose distinguished
reporting and analysis of world news and imaginative
