“ The Gerald J. and Dorothy R.
Friedman School of Nutrition
Science and Policy, has the
breadth of expertise to address
the complexity of nutrition in our
modern world. Our faculty, our
students, and our graduates,
are key players in solving
issues as diverse as famine and
successful aging. Our vision
for the future will sustain and
strengthen this capacity for
integrating science with policy
and real-world action.”

Our students graduate with not only a theoretical
knowledge of crisis and intervention, but with practical
“boots on the ground” experience of our world, and the
ability to influence policy and make change.
The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and
Policy is in a class by itself. Established in 1981, it
is the only self-governing graduate and professional
school of nutrition in North America. Our mission is
ambitious and increasingly urgent: to passionately
advance the nutritional well-being for people
worldwide through excellence in research and
teaching, and the shaping of public policy.
We achieve this broad mandate by bringing together
experts from the areas of clinical nutrition, social and
public policy, and biomedicine. Our faculty includes
anthropologists, biomedical scientists, economists,
epidemiologists, nutritionists, biostatiticians
physicians, political scientists, and psychologists.
We are able to respond to a variety of problems with
great creativity and insight. Our students graduate
with not only a theoretical knowledge of crisis and
intervention, but with practical “boots on the ground”
experience of our world, and the ability to influence
policy and make change. Our students embody Tufts
University’s leadership as a whole: internationalism,
life sciences, service, and interdisciplinary approaches
to solving important issues. At the Friedman
School, science lives in service to our world.
