Doctoral student Sarah Belisle
captained women’s rugby at Tufts
before pursuing graduate studies
at the Friedman School, where her
focus is the association of micro-
nutrients with immune function.
A recipient of the DSM Nutritional
Products Scholarship, Belisle is
developing her thesis project un-
der direction from Dr. Simin Nikbin
Meydani and Dr. Jose Ordovas.
“My project integrates the fields of immunology, nutrition and molecular biol-
ogy. It will examine the relationship between genetics and nutrition, and how
these factors impact respiratory infection in the elderly. I hope the outcomes
of my research will help us understand how nutrients and genes interact to
influence individual response to infection.
The Friedman School produces notable research in all aspects of nutrition
research, and has given me the extraordinary opportunity to work with some
of the top researchers in the field of nutrition science.”
