Dean, University of Minnesota Medical School
Her appointment at Minnesota in 2002 made Deborah Powell the first female dean
of the university’s medical school and one of only nine female deans among the 125
U.S. medical schools.
“Although as a medical student I never thought a great deal about a career
in academic medicine, I owe so much to Tufts University School of Medicine for
experiences which made such a career so enjoyable and exciting. Some of the
experiences at Tufts, such as the senior year community health rotation, were truly
memorable and I have tried to carry those ideas forward in different institutions
where I have worked.”
on-site administrative support will facilitate
teaching and research endeavors at the
hospitals. For example, clinical department
chairs and clerkship directors will have local
access to administrative support and other
resources currently available only at TUSM.
clinical research support and
seed funding: $ .5 million
To encourage individual faculty members
to pursue research interests and to help
affiliates benefit from the related activity,
TUSM will coordinate, encourage, and
support the expansion of clinical research
infrastructure across all sites. This effort
includes providing seed grants for clinical
research, expanding and adapting the
Division of Clinical Research Resources
to the needs of clinical affiliates, and
establishing a Tufts-wide Institutional Review
Board for clinical research.
