a thriving presence deep within the heart of Boston,
Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM) is not an ivory tower.
Chinatown and the Theater District surround the medical school and
neighboring Tufts Medical Center. Residents, students, and faculty
all contribute color and life to the dynamic neighborhood community.
The view from Harrison Avenue captures Chinatown shop fronts
near the Big Dig transportation project that is transforming the city.
And as the city transforms, so does TUSM — growing, changing,
and working to build upon a century-long legacy of excellence in
education and scientific research.
For much of our first century, TUSM was known for training family
doctors across New England. Today, biomedical research is integrated
into clinical training, and students are as likely to be found in Mumbai,
India, as they are in Boston. Our faculty, which includes Howard Hughes
Investigators in infectious disease, is world-renowned, and research at
Tufts laboratories on the Health Science Campus is helping to develop
vaccines for children in the farthest corners of the Third World.
