Overseer, Tufts University School of Medicine
Devette Russo, a retired analytical instrument industry
executive, has a special family relationship with Tufts.
Her son, Josh, is a student in the joint MD/PhD pro-
gram, pursuing his doctorate in cellular and molecular
biology at the Sackler School. And her father, Kenneth
Webb, is a patient who she says received exemplary
care from a team of Tufts doctors in cardiology, urol-
ogy, vascular medicine, and endocrinology.
“Fortunately, my father’s bladder cancer was discov-
ered early, but no sooner was his surgery scheduled
than his pacemaker began to fail. The Tufts physicians
who treated him were in daily communication with
each other and with us over a period of weeks as they
first replaced the pacemaker, then made sure he was
healthy enough to undergo the separate bladder sur-
gery with the lowest risk of complications.
“I know firsthand the kind of care my father receives
at Tufts Medical Center is a rarity. I’m glad my son is
being trained by these same physicians and scientists
in a culture where mutual respect and collaboration
are recognized as the key to individual achievement.”
