Situated at the heart of the Tufts Health Sciences Campus
and bordering Boston’s Chinatown and Theater District, TUSDM’s
One Kneeland Street facility was completed in 1972. Since that
time, the school’s reputation—locally, nationally, and globally—
has grown exponentially. As TUSDM has evolved to become the
nation’s second-largest dental school, the building has been
modified to the limits of its capacity. Given these conditions, the
efforts of TUSDM students, faculty, staff, and administrators to
serve the more than 20,000 patients who pass through our
doors each year have been truly heroic.
In recent years, TUSDM has sought to address this problem
before it reaches true crisis proportions through a comprehensive
master planning effort. Working in conjunction with the firm
ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge, TUSDM has devised a
strategy for expanding the building by five floors, which includes:
■ Significant additions to clinical space, including
treatment areas and patient waiting areas
■ Relocated administrative offices that will create room
for additional classroom space
■ A new, state-of-the-art continuing education facility
■ A new simulation clinic
■ Meeting space
