Revolutionary advances
in dental care bring both exciting possibilities
and real challenges for providing
oral health to people of all ages, all
around the globe. Meanwhile, rising costs
prompt concerns about how we support
our underserved, medically compromised,
and aging communities and ensure their
access to quality dental care. A successful
campaign will enable TUSDM to
respond responsibly.
Beyond Boundaries: The Campaign for Tufts
comes at the perfect time to build upon
our educational strengths and fiscal
discipline. For the past several years,
we have incorporated careful strategic
thinking into our long-term planning
and fiscal operations. As a result, the
school’s sound financial management
has encouraged growth throughout the
school—from an enhanced curriculum
to expanded research opportunities. Our
investments have steadily improved what
we offer students and faculty, and we
have been well rewarded for our efforts:
admission to our program is now among
the most competitive in the nation.
Upon this exceptionally strong
foundation, TUSDM will build new
initiatives that give our students and
faculty the world-class facilities and
programs to prepare them to succeed
in the ever-changing environment of
dental care and research. An important
first step is an investment in our physical
infrastructure.
A significant portion of our $40 million
campaign, $16 million, is earmarked
to improve our facilities to meet—to
exceed—the expectations and needs
of our students, faculty, and patients.
It is a fact: great students learn best in
great facilities; good teaching and good
learning are reinforced by efficient and
effective surroundings. Our plan is to
transform the overall learning experience
at TUSDM, dramatically expanding our
space to include brighter classrooms,
efficient clinical facilities, world-class
laboratories, and comfortable meeting
spaces to inspire camaraderie and foster
the exchange of ideas.
Additionally, we will invest in designing
an educational experience that fosters
greater cross-school collaboration—a
capability rich with promise, given our
location in the Tufts health sciences
campus and our ongoing collaborations
with other schools of the university.
