Tufts University - Tufts Tisch College Beyond Boundaries - Index

O U R P R O R T E S
Thanks to generous seed money from visionary philanthropic gifts and
steady annual support from Tufts, Tisch College has swiftly built a remarkable
record. However, magnifying our success—and sustaining it—demands very
substantial new resources.
Student Development Programs
From Active Citizenship Summers to the Scholar Projects,
our core programs for students urgently need the security
of endowment funding to flourish, expand in new global
directions, and continue to define the cutting edge.
Endowed Faculty Chairs
To ensure a high academic profile and sustained focus for
civic engagement, Tisch College will develop a network of
10 or more endowed professorships across the university
for professors whose research is both central to the discipline
of their school and has a compelling civic focus. These chairs
will also help Tufts achieve scholarly preeminence in the
civic realm.
Junior Faculty Career Development Chairs
We seek to endow two junior development chairs, rotating
across schools, to give younger faculty seeking tenure the
flexibility to pursue civic engagement research.

admit them. We also need to lessen the burden of student

Media and Public Service
The only program of its kind, this joint initiative with
Communications and Media Studies has attracted
extraordinary student interest and an accomplished board of
alumni advisors with deep industry experience. It merits an
endowment on par with its explosive potential.
Research Support
We seek funds to make Tufts a leader in civic engagement
research. We aim to develop a research center that will
support a growing cadre of leading scholars focused on civic
learning and citizen participation, and pioneering leaders in
community-engaged research. The research center at Tisch
will provide seed grants and staff support to Tufts faculty
members; it will apply the fresh information produced at

careers in public service. For both of these reasons, we
are sharply focused on helping Tufts aggressively build its
endowment for financial aid.

to fund at least half of our current operating needs.
