For Vanessa Kirsch, Tufts was “both incubator
and safety net.” A tireless campus activist, she
found at Tufts the freedom and confidence to
build her skills and shape her identity as a leader.
Today, through the nonprofit she founded, New
Profit, Inc., Vanessa does the same for other
innovative social entrepreneurs, helping them find
the expertise and capital they need to thrive.
“ We could change our society in profoundly
important ways if we turned our universities
into working microcosms of the healthy,
inclusive, participatory communities we want to
see everywhere. If you’ve lived that, if you’ve
had that kind of catalytic, transformative
experience as a young person, you’re changed
for life—and you know how to make that
kind of community real in the world.”
